This low block plane is based on the vintage Stanley #9-1/2 produced from 1873 through 1973. The #9-1/2 was Stanley's most popular block plane and for good reason.
This low angle block plane is the perfect tool for smaller smoothing and trimming jobs. The low angle design excels at slicing through end grain. This block plane is ideal for the DIYer, cabinet maker and discerning woodworker. The body is made from nearly indestructible stress-relieved ductile cast iron. The sole and sides are precision lapped flat to within 0.001" over the entire length of the sole. Overall length is 7-1/4" long by 2-1/8" wide. Weight is 2.25 pounds. The blade is adjusted forward/back via the brass rear adjustment knob. The 4-5/16" long by 1/8" thick by 1-5/8" wide tool steel iron is hardened and tempered to 55-60 HRc. Blade is ground at 25 degrees. The mouth opening can be easily adjusted via the brass knurled knob for both fine and coarse work. This plane has good mass to reduce chatter and can easily be used one-handed. Bed angle is 20 degrees.
